BBQ

Quick Post: We’re halfway though the summer and if you haven’t had the chance to make a BBQ, then do it if you can.

It is an American Tradition if there ever was one, built by us for our stomachs and as a way of bonding and gathering..

When I say BBQ, I don’t really mean burgers and hot dogs. I don’t mean grilling for an hour. I mean BBQ!

Harvesting the Garden

This is that time where I write a short reminder to all of you, to grow a garden and reap the rewards of your efforts.

Right now I am looking at a lovely amount of blackberries, picked ripe and ready within a few feet of my backdoor. Why? Because I had the foresight to plant them about two years ago, to care for them and prune them. Now I gather them up to eat with whipped cream.

Even Bella has shown curiosity at the fruity goodies!

Silver makes the world go round

Another short post as this is my birthday weekend. It seems as though my twin sister finally caught on to what I’ve been telling her all these years: that precious metals and investments make awesome gifts. With gifts like these in a family, you’re helping to enrich each other and move up in the world.

Shoo Fly Pie

leave a comment »

One of the few pleasures of life that you can truly enjoy is the art of cooking. A personal goal of mine is to learn to cook varied things which interest me, my taste buds, or my culinary curiosities. One of these items is Shoo Fly Pie. I saw this on an episode of Good Eats with Alton Brown and chose to follow his recipe. Oddly enough think I messed up the recipe by getting  the amount of flour mixed up. I am pretty sure that I used too little. Nevertheless, the pie came out fantastic and instead of being a very dense, thick pie.. I got something akin to a foamy pudding.. like those Yoplait Whipped yogurts… it rocked and if this was his intention I give him kudos for making the dish lower in calories for it! Added was a dollop of homemade whipped cream and some coffee… truly a treat to enjoy by all who love history, cooking, and simplicity.
