With this post, I end my weekday blog posts and move to the once weekly posting and special postings schedule. It was a fun experiment and a good strategy to keep my literary skills intact. Granted they were not as improved as I had hoped but they were maintained. Most people in the modern world write less than ten pages per year of complete thought (take out texting, social networking and only include plans to write multi-paragraph thoughts). If you consider that I’ve posted 290 posts including this one, that’s a sizeable contribution of text and ideas. Certainly not all of my ideas are good and many of my ideas will be disagreed with, but I am the one still writing and contributing and that’s all that matters.

Dedication to one’s goals is the mark of a disciplined person. I’ll keep my resolutions list to myself for the moment. So I’ll end the 2011 year with one piece of advice to any reader of my blog:

The world is full of critics and negativity, if you want to be happy you have to ignore them and stay positive.

Some stats about my blog from this year:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 1,973 times in 2011. If it were a cable car, it would take about 32 trips to carry that many people.

In 2011, there were 248 new posts, growing the total archive of this blog to 290 posts.

The busiest day of the year was October 14th with 31 views. The most popular post that day was Beer me once… shame on you, beer me six times…..

Happy New Year Everyone!!!!!!

Busy Day, two states, two cities, and fourteen hours.

Well I drove all day today because of busy traffic from the holiday rush. Thankfully the people driving this year were more than willing to go the speed limit and drive carefully. There were many days over the years where I could swear people were trying to be suicidal or homicidal with their methods of driving. This year was different. People followed the rules, saved on gas, and were civil to each other. Heck I could even say this: driving in New York City (even Manhattan) was probably safer than driving in Philadelphia. Think about that: a city that is an order of magnitude larger than my current residence has better drivers in smaller areas. Kudos to the city of my birth for keeping things safe this year and for creating such a nice atmosphere of acceptance and togetherness. They’ve really unified since 9/11 and you can feel it in the attitude of everyone who lives there.

Preparations

Tomorrow I will be picking up my cousin from the airport with her boyfriend and his uncle. They are coming up to spend new years eve in times square and see the big apple for a few days. As for myself I plan on spending the last nights of 2011 at home contemplating my resolutions and lists for the next year. Aside from my family, there really are only a few special people that I’d want to spend time with this year and they are on another continent. I’ve had many invites this year to go places but I’m just not in the mood this year. I am not sure what it is, maybe I’m just more focused or more likely, getting sick or some flu.

Besides that, I hope all of you are preparing your resolutions and lists for the next year, if the Maya are right, you’ve only got next year to get those things you want to do completed.

Booster Seat Bullshit

with one comment

I am really annoyed at the poor research and bad recommendations that the government puts out on a continual basis. Many of their recommendations have no truth to them and are only sold to the public because corporate lobbyists are funneling shitloads of cash into the pockets of bribed and corrupt public officials.

The latest is the idea of a Booster seat. In the past children were usually placed in the back seat on a parents lap or next to them and their safety belt was worn. Most of the time parents drove slower as a precaution against accidents.

Then the baby seats came out. Then the so called toddler seats.

‘twas the season

Well this weekend was pretty nice. I had a sweet chance to spend time with my family and see my twin sister, who is now a giant globe sized version of her former self. If any of you do not know the reason why, I’ll share it with you: she’s pregnant with twin girls!  We drove down to see her this year and she cooked dinner (well maybe her husband did most of the cooking, after all, she really had some trouble moving around).

This year it was one of the calmest holiday dinners we had in quite a long time. I enjoyed seeing her and her husband again and wish them the best this coming year, especially with two children on the way. They are not going to have much time for anything else.

So I guess I have to start thinking about myself in terms of an uncle and not as a brother. Neat.

Since things usually come in three’s my next guess is that my other sister who is now in a really good relationship will probably be planning to get married and have kids.

Time for me to make some new resolutions.

Last Friday before Christmas

leave a comment »

I am posting this to remind everyone who is doing their last minute Christmas shopping today that they should calm down, be nice to one another, and to not freak out while in the stores looking for some special gift.

This is Christmastime, Black Friday has passed and I know that some of you are slackers or too busy working until today for a chance to buy gifts, but really we do not need to kill each other over trinkets and plastic garbage. Trust me and trust that children will understand (or make them understand with a spanking) that mommy and daddy are more important than an XBOX, or tablet computer. This world is a rough and sufficiently brutal place to live in as it exists today, we do not need to ruin the season of Christmas (a time of joy, forgiveness and unity) with fighting, killing, and mercantilism.

You are above everything else: humans and not consumers.

Good luck and Godspeed!

Of all that is written, I love only what a person has written in his own blood.

That was a quote by Friedrich Nietzsche, one of my favorite and perhaps most enjoyable (Hayek is a strong competitor) philosophers of the known world. This quote however is can be taken many different ways and today I want to remind all of you able bodied, warm bodied, sober, and healthy people to look inwards and give a donation of one thing that will most certainly be needed this time of year: BLOOD.

Every year during the holidays people move about frantically and lose the ability to operate effectively. Many times this results in accidents and a trip to the hospital. Most of these people will need the life saving elixir that courses through the very veins in your vessel. Some of those people may be people that you love or know and truthfully it might even include you! For that reason, and for the simple joy of being able to share something so intimately connected, universal, and critical; I demand as a blogger that every single person who can donate safely, to donate.

It is a badly needed medical supply that many people will die from a lack of. It will cost you nothing in money, save for a little time and a short local trip to a blood donation center.

Donate today!
