Down with the Sickness

leave a comment »

For the past few days I have been in bed sicker than a dog out in the wet cold rain.

Apparently I have strep throat and for four days this beast of bacterial entertainment has filled me with the joys of knowing what medicines taste like. Normally I try to stay away from medications and deal with the pains of illness and disease as a method of increasing my immunity to the earth. Sadly it has been four days and with each passing day my throat is closing up more and more. Tonsils are closing the gap and pretty soon I will not be able to breathe. I haven’t eaten in several days and for the last two days all I have had to eat were vitamins and water… and now I am having trouble swallowing even that!!!

Tomorrow I shall have to procure some antibiotics and take what is known as a Z pack. Why do they call it that? I have no real clue except that the pills they contain are very powerful and do not discriminate against any bacteria living inside me. Consider it the A bomb of medicine (with the exception of chemotherapy), and treat it like an atomic bomb because once you take them you kill the good bacteria inside your body and must rebuild the colonies!

The picture below I found on the internet to show you one of the many things that is happening to me right now. I did not take a picture of my own throat because I am not up to trying to get a nice clear picture while being sick. This is pretty close to what my throat looks like:

Nasty and quite painful. Notice there is very little room to eat, drink or swallow! Just to be safe I have prepared a small emergency tracheotomy kit and placed it next to my bed before I go back to sleep. If I wake up choking and unable to obtain oxygen, I will have to perform it or die while waiting for the ambulance.

If you want to learn how to do this (I learned it in the Army):

Thinking Happy Thoughts.
