Mundane Mondays

This will be a short blog post. The rains last night, over the weekend and this week are a welcome change from the normally gloomy humidity that is Philadelphia. I do not mind humid and wet weather so long as it is cool. Hot humid weather kills me and freezing humid weather is the pits. Sadly Philly normally is humid and either hot or freezing (with breezes somehow normally occurring only on very cold days).

It is days like this that remind me of why I want to leave. The city is dirty. Filthy. I can understand a city being dirty if it is composed primarily of poor people, or is quickly urbanizing or after a disaster. Philadelphia is just plain dirty . People here rarely clean up after themselves, nor do they try to create nice public spaces for everyone to enjoy (they do the opposite and ruin their own public squares and gardens, thus creating the incentive to stay indoors, or if outdoors on a stoop/porch . The food here is ok but calorically there is no real way to burn it without being at the gym for 4 hours a day. The result is that half the population is either trying to look like the moronic cast of Jersey Shore, or like myself become a potential contestant for : The Biggest Loser. It is a hassle to walk anywhere here, and the scenery as one does make the decision to walk is depressing and uninspired. It is no wonder that people do not move around here unless they absolutely need to: there is nowhere nice to go outside and once there you can be assured that the nice place will become ghetto-tastic in a matter of months and then abandoned.

I am not all sour grapes today though, the birds are chirping, my dog and cats are happily playing indoors and this is proving to be a good time to do some needed cleaning of my living quarters.
