A short post on success..

I am reminded of a quote by one of America’s great inspirational people Zig Ziglar:

“If you don’t see yourself as a winner, then you cannot perform as a winner!”

Now this is not to be confused with the number of speeches and controversy over America’s now laughing stock Charlie Sheen:

“I’m bi-winning. I win here, I win there.”

charlie_sheen_super_messy Charlie-Sheen-Tattoos-Design The reason why the first person is actually in tune with what winning is versus the second person is because although Charlie Sheen sees himself as a winner he is not using that to perform as a winner. Instead he is looking at himself from the top of his success, right before his downward spiral into self destruction. Yet that is ok because most substance abusers who happen to be temporarily famous do this type of self absorbed boasting and then crash. The one’s who are not famous and are not known too well are never known and thus have little chance of being used as a comparison to people like Charlie Sheen.

I’ll give you an example, with just initials, of just a person: RM.

You see, RM was a person I knew when I was first entering the political arena (when I was 18yrs old). He was a local political figure in my area who had a checkered history that he blamed on medical issues. Those medical issues were solved when RM was in his 20’s. I met RM when he was in his 40’s. He was on disability, living in his father’s house, unemployed and a drug addict. He used his disability funds to purchase drugs for personal consumption and then later on to sell them to neighborhood people. During the time that I knew him and talked with him, he exhibited the same boasting, self centered, ‘can do whatever he feels like’ God complex that Mr. Sheen is currently demonstrating. It came as no surprise to me the reason why: Cocaine mixed with Weed and Booze.

wayne-lil bastard-ol-dirty Now don’t mind me, I am not complaining about drugs or drug users. What I am complaining about is the inverse relationship between drug use and ‘winning’ that seems to be incomprehensible to drug users who are about to fall off the cliff. RM was like that. He would rant maniacally for hours about how he could do this and that and how his lifestyle shouldn’t be judged b/c no one has lived his life and no one has done what he has done (which was nothing). Charlie Sheen is getting to that stage. Sure he has done many things but really they all amounted to (so far as I know) playing dress up and impersonation (acting). It is a world of make believe and pretending. And that is what both of these people are doing: pretending.

The real success can only be found after one truly believes in themselves and then actually uses that energy to succeed. If a person is telling themselves that they are winners while obviously failing then they are attempting to hold up their self esteem and delude themselves into thinking their lifestyle is admirable, worthy of emulation, and desired. Over time I have no doubt that Charlie will go the same route that RM went: to jail and substance abuse clinics, possibly and overdose and death. That’s what happens to losers, not winners. If you doubt this, just take a look at Tommy Lee, Bobby Brown, Lil Wayne, and the O.D.B.
