Movie Review: Black Swan

leave a comment »

This post was actually written on Monday 5/2/2011 regarding this film, it was actually watched on 5/1/2011. Since I was sick and did not have the energy to do anything on Friday, I  am posting this to cover that day’s topic.

220px-Black_Swan_poster I am writing to you concerning an excellent, if not confusing movie that I watched at home called : Black Swan. Exactly how I can review this movie is unsure as I am still very puzzled by it and can not quite place it in the horror / drama / thriller / misc. category (ies). For any of you who have not seen it, be warned that your continuation to read this will spoil the movie.

blackswan1 Here is the movie in a nutshell: a ballet dancer is a nutcase who lives with her mother, who was also a ballet dancer. The mother and daughter appear to both have serious cases of mental illness and are unmedicated. The mother, a control freak, is living through her daughter’s desires to become a great ballet dancer. The mother having failed to achieve her goal b/c she had sex and got knocked up.

that infamous paper problem…

leave a comment »

obama Now now, this has to be one of the saddest moments in American history. Here we have the elected President of the United States having to come up with a ton of money (estimates are at 5 million dollars and counting )to defend his citizenship claims. Now I am not one for conspiracy theories, but my last blog post on the subject got me thinking and when I get to thinking look out world because there will be some crazy ideas coming forth. Now that I have mentioned that, let me tell you that I am not one who believes that Obama is not a US citizen. However I can speculate that he, like a lot of Americans, have their documents screwed up by the USA (ergo lost, destroyed, damaged) and end up paying the price for it. Below is my opinion of his released birth certificate.

I honestly think it is a phony. A fake, a forgery. Do I think he is a citizen: absolutely. Why would Obama go through all this trouble? Because he is stuck having to defend a non issue. Government documents have a tendency to be destroyed and lost through carelessness (look how many copies of the Declaration of Independence keep popping up… if they couldn’t safeguard that piece of paper, how well can they do with your info?) I have downloaded a copy of Mr. Obama’s released certificate and did some personal evaluation of my own. Given the amount of time I spend on computers and document software (a lot, heck when I was a kid I was scanning lots of paperwork and currencies to see if I could print them out with modified words and names : like my face ). Granted, I never tried to use what I learned for illegal ventures or for self gain, but what I learned did help me find employment and gave me a greater appreciation for the wonders of technology at our disposal. That is where my opinion of the paperwork matters since I am a citizen, a voter, and I find it my duty (as well as everyone should) to question our governments and our leaders and to hold them accountable.

Birth Certificates

leave a comment »

obama-arrogant-sneer Naturally the news has been about the whole birth certificate issue and the Obama Presidency and his eligibility to even hold office. For me, I can not help but feel like this whole debate has not only been a non issue but a ploy by both parties at undermining the whole “natural born citizen” problem. The reason I feel this way has been because of a movie I saw many years ago called Demolition Man. In that movie they make mention of a “Schwarzenegger Presidential Library” and yet make no mention of how he could be President unless they remove the natural born citizen requirement. Fast forward several years and you now see that Arnold is Governor of California and still wildly popular. Add in the manufactured “Obama not being a US Citizen” issue and you can see where the impetus will be created for eliminating this requirement and then giving an opening for Arnold to run the nation. None of that surprises me though, since it has been my assumption that the leaders of the Democrats and Republicans have been running this country under exclusive control and passing the reigns from one to the other for several decades.

arnold-schwarzenegger So why on earth would this birth certificate solve or end the so called debate anyway? Here we have a man who was required to submit forms in order to run for the office he now holds, being badgered about his nationality after winning the election. Shouldn’t this have been a major key issue during the election? It should have but they saved it until after he won in order to undermine the US traditions and rules. It wouldn’t surprise me if in the next few months, they make the claim that the now ‘long form birth certificate” is a phony made up by the CIA and insiders. After all, it is a little too coincidental that Obama released his certificate and then magically changed directors for the CIA and a few other key positions. My guess (in the event that the conspiracy theorists are right) is that what is happening right now is an internal power struggle and a few people found out the truth that Mr. Obama is still a foreign citizen and needed to be ‘bought out’ by the establishment. So as a favor for being bought out, they helped Obama get new faked documents (I have a printer too and can print things) just like those they issue to spies and undercover agents that certify he is the real deal. My guess is that they were hoping that O’s citizenship wouldn’t have been that much of an issue and that he’d be the ‘example’ of good leadership that would have allowed them to vote on removing the ‘natural born citizen’ clause of the Constitution.

Sadly they either misread the public, mistakenly put their trust in an idiot to run the nation (yet another idiot), or took control at the wrong time in American history.

….or Obama is a citizen and this is all just a waste of time and attention from the real problems facing the nation (very likely).

My guess is that the reason why the public is fighting so hard to prove he is not from here is to remove him… because we are slowly realizing what a moron he is and we don’t want a black version of Bush Jr.

but he’s officially not just an idiot…. he’s ‘our idiot’.

Software Review: DVD VideoSoft

leave a comment »

YouTubeToMP3 It has been some time since the news has posted about lawsuits and copyright infringement problems caused by the P2P networking of software like Napster, Ares, Bear Share and Pirate Bay. The demand for music, videos and all other forms of entertainment media hasn’t declined which can only mean one thing: the free market sharing of media will continue. Which brings me to today’s post.

DVD VideoSoft has made a wonderful package program that allows you to pull music and videos from sites like Youtube and toss them into your IPod, mp3 folders and video libraries. It’s called : “Free YouTube to MP3 Converter” (original huh?) and is available here. With this program you can do basically what we as kids used to do: copy songs onto a tape from a public broadcasted media center. Granted it might be a stretch to think about but it is true. On the radio (TV), just like YouTube, they play songs and (MTV) videos. We had VCR’s and tape recorders that would record the music off those stations and channels and into our own personal collections. Those places would play commercials and generate a fee because we would be listening to it. YouTube is now and for quite a while has been integrating commercial advertisements into its’ video collection. Thus it can be considered the rightful inheritor of public media broadcasting. We as the listeners, have the next level of recording devices that are similar to tape decks and VCR’s: the mp3 and avi/flash recording formats.

Basically this software allows you to visit the sight of the music you want to listen to on YouTube, copy the address and post it into the software, and make a copy of it into your hard drive or mp3 player.  Neat Huh?

Give it a try…. I am sure you’ll agree that it is a very very very useful program.

Conan the Barbarian conan02 So last night I got in the mood to watch Conan the Barbarian and proceeded to find a torrent and download it onto my pc. After a brief interlude of downloading I proceeded to watch it and enjoyed it immensely! The initial quote that is placed at the beginning of the film is what the blog is about. In the first few moments of the film you are presented with a great quote from the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche : “ That which does not kill us makes us stronger.” It provides a great example of foreshadowing and really gives the audience the indication that this movie is really a testament of that philosopher’s ideology applied to the real world.

Conan the Barbarian is a classic example of the master-slave morality battle come to life. You have the protagonist : Conan, whose whole family and culture have been destroyed by a religious cult bent on conformity, suffering and death. Conan, after years of tortured enslavement, thrives in the ancient world from his wits, combat and inevitably becomes a king by his own hand. In this movie he is a thief, stealing jewels and treasure from the temples of a snake cult while looking for the leaders of a cult that has a special banner: a snake with two heads facing itself. Tulsa Doom, played by James Earl Jones, is a wizard warrior who rules the cult and creates an atmosphere of cannibalism and hedonism.
